Do you believe that your words have power behind them? A lot of people don’t realize this or believe this, but it’s true. Your words have power God says “Life and death are in the power of the tongue” – Prov 18:21.
You can either speak negative words – “My mom had breast cancer so I’ll probably get it too.” “Here comes flu season; I’ll probably get it this year.” “I’m not smart enough to do that job.” Or you can speak positive words – “I will not get breast cancer like my mom.” “I know flu season is coming but I am healthy and I am not going to get sick.” “I am smart enough to do anything God wants me to do.”
11 My word, which comes from my mouth, is like the rain and snow.
It will not come back to me without results.
It will accomplish whatever I want
and achieve whatever I send it to do.”
Isaiah 55:11GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)
If you allow the bad words to settle and you consider them in your heart it will form weapons in your life. The weapons that protect you or that attack you. If there wrong (death) words, then you need to condemn and rebuke them. Fight them with scripture. Don’t speak death in your life or someone else’s.
17 “No weapon that is formed against you will prosper;
And every tongue that accuses you in judgment you will condemn.
This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord,
And their vindication is from Me,” declares the Lord.
Notice that God is telling YOU to condemn those words. Why? Because He gave your words power. When you spoke the words that you believed in Jesus as your Lord and Savior that’s when you were saved. You spoke those words out loud and something supernatural happened to you. You might not have felt anything in the natural but your eternal future was changed at that moment.
Renew your mind daily. Start noticing what you are saying to yourself, to your husband and to your kids etc. Stop the negative talk and speak life. Even when arguing or disciplining your kids you can still speak life. Start with asking God to show you how you can change your words. Also, ask Him to make you sensitive to the negative words so that you can rebuke them immediately. Then find a few scriptures that speak life, that make you smile, that make you feel good and say those out loud. Thank God for His promises.
I’ll give you one, “…God is love” 1 John 4:8
What is LOVE?
“Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails…”
1 Corinthians 13:4-8
Thank God for loving you unconditionally. Just sit and think about each one of these words and be thankful that you are so precious in Gods eyes that He would love you like this.
