fenceThe Mediocre Life – The Ride the Fence kinda person

I have a friend that lives her life this way.  I think she believes she is a better person because she doesn’t get very angry or overreact.  She doesn’t get very excited over good things either.  She doesn’t have goals in life.  She lives “in the moment”, she doesn’t plan for things.  She goes with the flow and lets people take her through life.  She doesn’t stand up for right or wrong for the most part.  She would rather sit and watch – bottom line is – it’s not because she is such a “good” person and she is controlling her emotions it’s because she doesn’t really care.

My Dad has said many times “the opposite of love is not hate.  You have to have feelings for that person to hate them.  The opposite of love is INDIFFERENCE.  When you’re indifferent you don’t care one way or another.  You are “riding the fence”, you have no real feelings because you don’t care enough to understand issues at hand.

God says it best in Revelations 3:16 “So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.”

You don’t always have to have an opinion on a matter nor do you have to share your opinion on everything that comes before you but when this is your life’s motto – that’s a problem.

I think ‘religion’ today tells us to be nice, don’t argue, don’t get mad, get along with everyone, be tolerant of everyone (even if they are doing what God says don’t do).  God tells us to love one another, He tells us to forgive one another but He also tells us to stand on truth and do not be confused.  Know what the truth is first…search and you shall find knock and the door will be opened.  We need to ask for wisdom, knowledge, and understanding etc. but we also have to do our part and get into the God’s Word and start searching for His truth on the matters of the world.

You can’t just sit around and let life happen – that is not God’s plan for your life.  He has given everyone a purpose.  Find out what yours is and take the first step in that direction.

I heard a pastor say “If you’re not bumping into the devil then you might be going in the same direction.”

It’s ok to have an opinion that differs from others.  Jesus offended a lot of people – so much so that they wanted to torture and murder Him. So, sometimes when the phrase “what would Jesus do?” comes up, remember there are times that…  “Jesus entered the temple and drove out all those who were buying and selling in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who were selling doves.” Matt 12:12 & Matt 11:15.

God doesn’t tell us to get along with everyone and go with the flow.  God’s word says…”Fight the good fight of faith; take hold of the eternal life to which you were called, and you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.”  1 Timothy 6:12

In a commentary I read it states….

_________________________________________________________________

The nature of true Christianity is warfare. The moment you become a Christian, you have entered into a battle (2 Corinthians 10:4-5 and Ephesians 6:10-18). Paul told Timothy that he was going to be in a battle. The battle requires two things: faith and a good conscience (see note 18 at 1 Timothy 1:19).

Those of us who don’t like to think of Christianity as a battle against the forces of evil can’t change the situation by ignoring it. We are in a battle, like it or not, and neglecting the fight just gives our Enemy the advantage.

We have to be willing to speak up when God wants us to speak even if it doesn’t go along with the political correctness of times.  God wants you to make a choice – His way or satan’s way.  There is no middle ground.  You can fool yourself by thinking you’re in the middle but if you are not on God’s side there is only one other side!

What side are you choosing?
