love-dare

I read this book last year and feel the need to read it again.  I love my husband very much but we have very different personality traits.  Mine are softer and his are harder.  Mine are more forgiving and his wants justice.  Mine are more loving his are more by the book.  I have “toughened” up over the years and I have found myself in situations over and over with him where I am getting the short end of the stick.  I have learned to stand my ground more but not enough at times.  Now, I am 45 years old and have been married to him for 24 years.  He has softened more over the years and I have gotten harder.  I want the old me with some of the new attributes I have learned to join together to make the NEW ME. There is the balance that I need to find.

I am hoping to focus my attention on getting back to who God wants me to be.  Not who I think I should be so others don’t do me wrong again.  I know we are humans and we hurt people and nothing I do can stop that.  I have to just trust God that He will get me through my days no matter what others do.  ec4974e4225473c62433dfac052a4d41

The book starts with PATIENCE.  I underlined a few sentences that the authors, Stephen and Alex Kendrick, wrote.  “When you choose to be patient, you respond in a positive way
to a negative situation.”  “Patience brings an internal calm during an external storm.” A few more are, “the irony of anger toward a wrongful action is that it spawns new wrongs of its own.” “Patience, however, makes us wise.  It doesn’t rush to judgment but listens to what the other person is saying.”

I will be patient today with my husband, kids and the other drivers around me.  I will let you know how it goes.

Has anyone else worked through this book?  What chapters helped you the most?
